Before and after of a town house garden in Cambridge.

Clients brief: Create an informal, woodland vibe setting to make use of a currently neglected area.

We transformed this space by adding some large rocks around the existing cedar to elevate the woodland feel. A stepping stone path gently connects the garden and lawn to the trees beyond. The fire-pit with seating around makes it the perfect spot for cosy evenings outdoors.

A little snippet of last week.

1–2. Visited the beautiful @hollyjohnstondesign Bridgerton Garden at @CUH_NHS. The stonework @naturalbydesign_drystonewalls and plants from @Palmstead look excellent. After having our first child during lockdown here and asked to leave just two hours later, I know how much it would’ve meant to have somewhere like this to pause, gather my thoughts, and just breathe.

3. Found myself back in the studio at 10pm submitting our Chelsea application. It’s our first ever show garden (!) so we’re… realistically optimistic 😅

4. Working on a front garden in Cambridgeshire where parking is key. We need to maximise parking, minimise car park vibes! Always chasing that sweet spot between beauty and function.

5. New brief typed up for a lovely client in Bishop’s stortford who would like a modern courtyard garden designing.

6-7. Ended the week with an initial discovery meeting in Essex. A blank canvas of a garden, and an incredible client who invited me in for breakfast. We instantly connected, and I’ve never felt more welcomed in a client’s home. I left feeling genuinely excited about what we could create together.

A refreshing trip to Greece left us inspired.

The landscape is shaped by history, simplicity, and nature. We came home wanting to carry more of that ethos into our own designs: embracing imperfection and allowing spaces to feel more natural and less controlled.

1. Simple but stylish seating – Rendered wall benches with layered cushions create functional and stylish seating with minimal fuss.

2. Wild gabions – Raw, rugged and claimed by nature, these stone-filled cages blend seamlessly into the landscape, offering structure without stealing attention.

3. Natural tones and materials – Soft, sun-worn palettes and tactile surfaces that ground a space and make it feel like home.

4. Embracing historical beauty – Letting aged walls, patina, and story-rich details speak rather than covering them up.

5. Simple and native planting – Low-effort, high-impact greenery that thrives where it belongs and knows how to coexist.

6. Repurposing and making the most of space – Every corner is used with intention, proving that beauty often comes from constraint.
